Castle of Light opened for the first time in December 2019, illuminating Edinburgh Castle, Scotland’s most popular visitor attraction during the festive period. Immersive illuminations, awe-inspiring projections across the historic buildings and enchanting installations transform Scotland’s most famous landmark.
NL Productions successfully tendered for the project in 2019 and deliver the event in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland, Andy Mcgregor Design, Double Take Projections and War Productions.
Partnership is key to this project, combining skills to deliver one of the largest projection shows in the UK. This is accentuated by lighting displays and interactive installations.
A world-famous historic site brings with it unique challenges: protecting the historically significant structure and aligning with historic facts and interpretation.
As part of the design process there is significant engagement with local communities to expand educational outcomes and accessibility.
The project is now in its fifth year and continues to grow its audience and receive worldwide recognition.
